“Faith Riders” is a church ministry group of motorcycle riders based out of Cielo Vista Church that seeks to be involved in the community. In July, they held their quarter annual canned food drive as part of their larger mission. Virginia Lawyer is the outreach coordinator for Faith Riders. “We collect what we can here and we later divide the food among several different organizations throughout the city. One of those organizations is the ‘You Eat I Eat’ community unity food pantry in the Northeast.” Lawyer explained that the pantry gives out home cooked meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11-2 and on Wednesdays from 6-8 to people in need. “We had great success last time with ‘You Eat I Eat’ because we had not made contact with other organizations. The last drive fed well over 100 people. Our contact there informed us that her cupboards were running bare so she needed another drive. Anyone who would like to donate through us with money or food drives would be greatly appreciated.”
Since their food drive earlier this year, the Faith Riders have expanded their efforts to include others. “We now also support ‘Sigiendo Los Paso de Jesus’ (Following Jesus’ Footsteps), an organization that builds homes in Juarez in the poorest parts of Juarez. These people build homes out of wood pallets and cardboard boxes. They’re also starting a food pantry there. We also go into downtown El Paso to help feed the homeless and the migrant workers. Finally, we help ‘Hearts for Juarez’ that feeds elderly and the children in Juarez.”
Lawyer and Robert Parker, assistant chaplain for the Faith Riders, would like to invite others who would like to help into their group, motorcycle not required to help!
